Internet Governance and role of ICANN in the Global Ecosystem
March 7 @ 9:00 am - 2:00 pm UTC+0
This is the seventh in a series of workshops organized by the Centre de Calcul El Khawarizmi (CCK) in the context of the Academic Engagement Program of ICANN (Internet Corporation of Assigned Names and Numbers). This program seeks to engage with academic students and educate them on the Internet Governance ecosystem with a focus on ICANN work and the Internet Unique Identifiers. This should raise awareness among students and academic staff about Internet governance and the ICANN as well as creating stronger synergies between ICANN and Academic Institutes in Tunisia. This series of workshops complement information delivered as part of academic curriculum, and give a sense of how knowledge gained from textbooks looks in real life.
This seventh workshop will have as a main theme Internet Governance and Management of Internet names and numbers. It will be organized at the Institut Supérieur d’Informatique et de Gestion (ISIG) of the University of Kairouan with the assistance of ATI, ISOC-Tunisia, ISIG, and the University of Kairouan. The program will consist of three lectures. The first lecture will provide a brief introduction of the role and mission of CCK as well as an overview of the ICANN Academic Engagement Program. The second lecture is a tutorial on the various aspects of Internet Governance and the role of ICANN in the Global Ecosystem. The third lecture shall provide a detailed explanation on how Internet addresses, names and numbers are allocated and managed. The workshop will be concluded with a roundtable animated by representatives from CCK, ATI, ISOC-Tunisia and academic institutions of the region, with the objective of discussing various issues related to the national research and education network and the Internet ecosystem in general.
